Wilson Creek Rest Area

Wilson Creek Rest Area is a free short term campsite located 28km south of Home Hill and 12 kms north if Gumlu on the southbound side of the Bruce Highway in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland.

This rest area is a combined motorist and heavy vehicle rest area where trucks, motorists, and caravans can stop and take a break. It is very basic with little shade but it has easy access just off the highway. There are no toilets here so would be most suited for self contained vehicles but it does have sheltered picnic tables and rubbish bins. There are some trees providing limited shade and the camping surface is mix of dirt, gravel, grass and bitumen.

Wilson Creek Rest Area has a train line that runs behind it so between that and the highway, the noise level can be a bit much at times but overall it is an OK place to stop, break your journey and have a rest.

There is some mobile phone service (depending on your carrier) and television reception here.
Dogs are welcome at this campsite but please be responsible!

The maximum time limit for staying here is 20 hours.
*Please obey any signs at the site regarding length of stays.

Please Note:
Rest areas are there for you to stop and rest, making your trip safer and more enjoyable. Rest areas are not long-term camping sites, however motorists are able to take extended rest breaks at some sites. Rules on the length of stay at rest areas vary between controlling authorities. Check with the authority responsible for the relevant rest area for more information. Heavy vehicle rest areas are only for heavy vehicles. This does not include caravans and motorhomes, they are for truck drivers only. (source: www.tmr.qld.gov.au)
